Mold is a form of fungus. Mold typically grows in areas of a home that have been exposed to water, excess moisture, humidity, and poorly ventilated areas. In order for mold to develop, it requires a combination of moisture, warmth, and organic matter to feed on. There are well over a thousand variations of molds and fungus, some of them can be toxic and some of the mold is non toxic. Mold can thrive in a home or building, causing damage and potentially serious health issues for the inhabitants. As mold is naturally occurring, mold spores generally enter a home or building through open windows and doors, constant traffic through the home, or objects carried in that are contaminated with mold spores.

These types of mold can get into the body through digestive tracts, eyes, respiratory system, or skin contact. So far, no treatments have been identified but you can remove them by rinsing your eyes using saline and washing your skin thoroughly. It’s advisable to see a physician immediately if you believe you have come into contact with toxigenic mold.
